That was a goal and I made it happen successfully. “I hadn’t ever grown up seeing no hip-hop or no rap shows at the Orpheum. I had written about it in one of my raps: ‘Picture me performing at the Orpheum,’” says Gotti. “I got this thought a few years ago that I wanted to play the Orpheum. But the whole idea began as a kind of aspiration in one of his lyrics. It’s the third such “Yo Gotti and Friends Birthday Bash” event, and it’s fast become a Memphis hip-hop summer tradition.Įach year, Gotti’s annual extravaganza has seen big name guests (Nelly, Young Jeezy, Jadakiss), ever bigger stage shows, and sellouts.
